Bought my own DVR for Christmas for my bedroom tv, so i could record my shows. Now it is useless, as I now need a digital adaptor, and can only record on one channel, until I change it manually.

Seems as though this digital receiver should receive digital signal. WRONG , since TWC scrambles the signal, so need their digital adapter to unscrabble the signal. I guess they figured out another way to suck more money out of us.

Greed is the core of everything, and we the consumer, are the ones that work and have to pay dearly for even a simple enjoyment of tv. I remember when the airwaves were free!!

Product or Service Mentioned: Time Warner Cable Dvr Tv Service.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

What is actually happening is that TWC encrypts their signal to prevent service theft. What happens when they do NOT do this, is that people can route coax off of TWC taps or from neighbors, etc and effectively steal service.

The way the TWC network works in all area that have completed the digital conversion (DCI) is that those areas are now encrypted to prevent service theft.

Side effects of service theft are more than just loss of possible revenue for TWC. When you split a signal more than intended, you lower the signal level coming in, and equipment will raise its outgoing levels to compensate. This cascades to all other equipment sharing the tap and even to a degree the amps on the outside lines as it throws them ALL out of balance.

So 1 person stealing cable can effect a dozen or more. If can get even worse if they try to manually splice a line, which damages the TWC equip directly and can cause interference and feedback to throw a whole neighborhood out of whack.

Like it or not, there are good reasons for all that is done.

Complaining about the need for equipment for service is obtuse. Basically every company requires their equipment for service in this industry to some degree.
